The simple life

Parishilton was the star in the real life show "The simple life". The idea for the show was generated in Fox's comedy department and was born out of a challenge. It was to find another way to do comedies outside of the traditional sitcom format.

The Simple Life was inspired by Green Acres, a sitcom about a New York society couple who moved to a farm.

Originally the producers wanted Paris Hilton and her sister Nicky Hilton to star in the show.
They wanted the girls, who never worked a day in their lives, to live and work on a farm. But Nicky, being somewhat shy to the limelight at the time, turned it down.
Paris told some media that she was in talks to do the show by herself, but ultimately, the producers decided the city-living cast had to be a duo.

Paris asked several friends for the show but ended up making the agreement with Nicole Richie.

The next step was to find a family who live on a farm. The Leding family in Altus, Arkansas, was found for the girls to move in with. Now everything was ready, the production of The Simple Life season 1 began on May 2, 2003.
